Course Summary
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a virus that is believed to have infected humans for the first time in 2019. Once a person is infected, he or she may acquire Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The symptoms of this disease range from asymptomatic and mild to potentially serious, even deadly. Healthcare workers are particularly at risk of transmission because of their workplace exposure to COVID-19. The different strains or variants of COVID-19 will be discussed, treatments utilized for prevention, and treatments utilized for those who have contracted COVID-19. This course will also discuss the emergence of SARS-CoV-2, how SARS-CoV-2 infects its host, and how viral exposure affected populations worldwide, leading to a pandemic.
After completing this inservice, the learner will be able to:
  • Explain how COVID-19 is spread and ways to prevent the spread
  • Identify the risk factors for COVID-19
  • Describe how to keep yourself and residents safe in your role as a healthcare professional
