Course Summary
Hypertension or high blood pressure is a chronic medical condition that is caused by a persistent elevation of the pressure inside the circulatory system. As individuals age, they are more likely to develop hypertension. Hypertension is a very serious disease that has significant complications and consequences. There is no cure for most cases of hypertension but with lifestyle alterations and the proper medications when needed, hypertension can be controlled. Caring for someone with hypertension should start with recognizing the people who are at risk. The health care professional is able to identify people at risk of developing hypertension and help educate them on hypertension prevention and to encourage them to follow proper treatment.
