Course Summary
Basic knowledge of disease transmission and the proper use of infection control procedures are needed when caring for a patient with tuberculosis. The important points for the health care professional to remember are that tuberculosis is transmitted by the respiratory route, there is no risk of developing tuberculosis if proper infection control techniques are used correctly and consistently. When a health care professional is caring for a patient who has tuberculosis it is imperative to always follow standard precautions. The health care professional will utilize an N95 respirator correctly and consistently, and it is important to understand and observe respiratory isolation techniques.
